"For those who consider themselves supportive of LGBT rights, perhaps instead of saying ‘who cares?’ the more proper response is ‘I care.’

I care that so many Americans are afraid for their safety for no other reason than who they are.

I care that we have laws in place that deny so many Americans the mechanisms they need to take care of their families.

I care that right now, there is a young person contemplating taking his or her own life because he or she has been the target of relentless bullying at school, has no support and doesn’t see a way out.”

High school is hard to get through. It’s even harder for LGBT teens.

LGBT teens are more likely to attempt suicide than their heterosexual peers. LGBT teens whose families reject them are even more likely to attempt suicide than LGB youth who experience little or no family rejection.

In this episode of Law & Order SVU, there is a transgender girl whose father is beaten nearly to death. The entire episode centers around the difficulties of being transgender. I can’t begin to explain how incredible this episode is. I don’t know how accurate this episode is, but it brings out alot of the issues that I’m sure transgender people go through. I wish people could be more accepting and less terrified of “differences”. We’re all the same, we all just want to be treated fairly and equally.

Major Upgrade of the Day: Facebook has just updated its relationship status drop-box to include two long-overdue options: “In a civil union” and “in a domestic partnership.”
The move to improve the company’s inclusiveness of the LGBT community was approved following consultation with Facebook’s Network of Support — a confederation of LGBT organizations such as he Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network, and the Human Rights Campaign.
“This has been a highly requested feature from users,” Facebook’s manager of public policy communications Andrew Noyes in quoted as saying. “We want to provide options for people to genuinely and authentically reflect their relationships on Facebook.”

Today, the LA Gay & Lesbian Center received a special letter from 7-year-old Malcolm, who decided to donate $70—a gift from his mother, for the charity of his choice—to the Center after hearing a story on the radio about the mistreatment of LGBT people. $70 is enough to provide two days of support services for a homeless LGBT youth at our Jeff Griffith Youth Center.
The next generation of the world gives me so much hope.
